BETHANY & JOSH’S DAY
Right from the start, Morgan knew Bethany and Josh’s day was going to be incredible! To start off with, Bethany and Josh chose their wedding date because it was Bethany’s grandparents’ anniversary! (Cue the tears!)
While Morgan did not know Bethany before the couple hired Sunflower Events for coordination, they did have mutual friends. In fact, two of Morgan’s bridesmaids were going to be Bethany’s bridesmaids as well! It worked out really well that Morgan had that connection, because there was a secret plan going on behind Bethany and Josh’s backs.
Bethany and Josh’s wedding took place on a beautiful May afternoon in 2022 at Exploration Place in Wichita, KS. Now, some of you might be thinking wait…isn’t Exploration Place an interactive museum for kids? Well, yes, yes it is…however, it has an INCREDIBLE space for events that overlooks the Arkansas River. If you didn’t enter through the front lobby, you wouldn’t even know you weren’t in a typical wedding venue. Personally, we think the fact that Bethany and Josh were married at Exploration Place just showcases their fun and quirky personalities!
There really was not much to do before the ceremony since we were going to be flipping the room for the reception. Exploration Place took care of setting up the chairs, so Morgan was able to arrive a bit later. When she got there, she went to see how the girls were doing with hair and makeup - the room was filled with love and laughter, it was amazing to see! In the guys room though, there was a bit more concentration going on, they were working on a pre-wedding puzzle - I told you, quirky!
Fast forward to the ceremony. Bethany and Josh are both very musically talented and Bethany comes from a very musical family. During the ceremony, her father played guitar while her twin sister sang. We absolutely love when families can share special moments like this during the wedding day, it’s always so meaningful! Our couple said their “I dos” and had the BIGGEST smiles on their faces all the way down the aisle!
During the Cocktail Hour, Bethany’s father and step-mom provide the entertainment (musical family, remember?!). Throughout the planning process, Bethany’s mom, Sonja, was right there by their side. She was at all of our meetings with them and was such an incredible help when it came to organization of the decor and centerpieces for the flip. We were going to be tight on time with the room flip and it was so helpful to have all the decor packed and easily accessible.
As this was one of Sunflower Events first couple weddings, Morgan was on her own for the flip. The staff at Exploration Place were there to help with tables and chairs, but thankfully, some of Bethany and Josh’s family and friends also helped (this was discussed at one of the detail meetings and they were hand chosen to assist). Morgan told Sonja that she was not allowed to help with the flip though, she was to be “off-duty” for the wedding day, she had already done the hard work! However, in true Mother-of-the-Bride fashion, halfway through the flip, Sonja comes down the hall with a drink in each hand and asked Morgan what she could do to help! Morgan just laughed and told her to go back down the hall and enjoy the Cocktail Hour, we had everything under control!
The reception was a PARTY! From the grand entrances to the last dance, Bethany says that their friends are still talking about their reception! The drinks were flowing, the music was blasting, and the dance floor was NEVER empty. Except for one time…remember that surprise that we kept from the Bride and Groom? Two words…FLASH. MOB.
Morgan had coordinated with the bridesmaids and the DJ (Alex Dugger with Black Tie Celebrations) to surprise the couple with their very own flash mob. Morgan brought some chairs to the middle of the dance floor while the bridesmaids got Bethany and Josh to sit down right as the song started. What’s even more fun…some of the moves to the flash mom song (“Dancing Queen” by ABBA) were made up during the Bachelorette Trip!
Bethany and Josh were SO surprised, they had absolutely no idea that was going to happen. Shortly after the flash mob, Josh and his fraternity brothers serenaded Bethany with a song and Bethany’s sorority sisters did the same.
The rest of the night went off without a hitch and our Dancing Queen and her King danced into the next chapter of their lives!
